# WOMEN'S WEEK at HTL Wien West - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - 8th March 2026
It is common knowledge that there are fewer women in STEM jobs than men, sadly enough. However, there are famous role models for all the aspiring female future engineers, who are attending this college. Together with Jack Litke, our American language assistant, the students of 3AHET were doing some research about women who completed groundbreaking work in various fields of specialisation, also beyond STEM jobs. Among these outstanding women are Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the legendary member of the US Supreme Court, Condolezza Rice, the former US secretary of state, and Mae Jemison, who became the first African-American woman to travel to space in the year 1992. Two more extraordinary women who have inspired future generations are of course Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai.
Across all years, classes and subjects students at HTL Wien West have been covering the topics of gender equality and equal pay this week, and they have certainly gained valuable insights and new perspectives. Currently the share of female students at this college amounts to approximately 10 percent. Let´s all strive to increase this number considerably in the next few years!
